Vinexpo Asia-Pacific is traditionally held in Hong Kong every two years in May. In conjunction with this event, the Commanderie du Bontemps Gala Dinner takes place in the sumptuous ballroom of the Grand Hyatt hotel. The Gala dinner brings together more than 600 guests from all over the world to taste the great wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Since its creation, the Gala Dinner has become a key event at Vinexpo Asia-Pacific, celebrating not only the wines of the Left Bank but also the friendships and partnerships forged around this shared passion. Each edition of this dinner is a unique opportunity to savour exceptional wines, enjoy refined cuisine and strengthen ties between wine professionals from around the world.

The menu for this gala dinner is carefully designed by the Grand Hyatt’s chef, in perfect harmony with the great wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank.

This gala dinner has a rich and moving history, being the first event organised in 1998 by Vincent Cheung and Jean-Michel Cazes. These two iconic figures have played a crucial role in promoting Bordeaux wines in Asia. Jean-Michel Cazes, renowned owner of Château Lynch-Bages, and Vincent Cheung, an influential wine distributor in Hong Kong, joined forces to create a tradition that continues to this day.

On 28 May 2024, over 680 guests gathered to celebrate the long-awaited return of Left Bank wines to Hong Kong. The event, held in the prestigious surroundings of the Grand Hyatt, offered an unforgettable gastronomic experience.

The dinner was also organised as a tribute to the friendship and influence of Jean-Michel Cazes and Vincent Cheung. Both deceased, they were emblematic figures and pillars of the wine trade in Asia. Jean-Michel Cazes, the celebrated owner of Château Lynch-Bages, and Vincent Cheung, a lawyer and eminent wine lover in Hong Kong, played a crucial role in the development and promotion of Left Bank wines in Asia. Their passion, vision and commitment have left an indelible mark on the wine world.

It was an evening of celebration, remembrance and shared pleasure, marking a new chapter in the appreciation of French wines in Hong Kong.
